Body of E’bo resident found in trench

THE lifeless body of 48-year-old Rajanauth Daljit called ‘Rohit’ was on Friday afternoon fished out from a trench at New Road, Essequibo Coast.

The Guyana Chronicle understands that Daljit lived alone at Lot 32 New Road, Essequibo Coast and works as a labourer. Daljit reportedly suffers from epilepsy (“fits”) and is said to be an alcoholic.

According to reports, Daljit was seen washing paddy bags in a trench in front of a home by 51-year-old rice farmer Karran Koomar, at Lot 28 New Road on Friday between 10:00hrs and 17:00hrs.

According to Koomar he left Daljit washing the bags while he (Koomar) went to fetch manure.

However, Koomar told the police that when he returned around 17:00hrs he saw Daljit’s cigarette and lighter on his veranda but he did not see him.

He then decided to look for Daljit and saw him floating face down in the said trench and raised an alarm.

Daljit’s relatives and neighbours came and the body was then removed from the trench by relatives and examined by a police for marks of violence.

The police found bruises on Daljit’s forehead and what appears to be blood coming from his nose; the body was then taken to the Oscar Joseph Hospital at Charity, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor. The body was then taken to the Suddie mortuary where it awaits a post-mortem.
