THE 15th edition of the King’s Jewellery World Duck Curry competition is billed for Sunday at the Guyana National Stadium, at Providence, East Bank Demerara.The event will see 27 locals versed in cooking duck curry, including three from the recently held Digicel Duck Curry contest, pitting their skills against each other for a chance to win over a million dollars in trophies and prize money.
It will also see participation from groups from as far afield as the United States of America, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname and Barbados.
The competition starts at 14:00hrs, and the entries will be judged on texture, aroma and taste. There will be prizes for the best presentation and largest group among others.
However, as the sun sets, patrons will be in for a rare treat, as several regional, international and local artistes will be performing.
Headlining the event will be reigning Trinidad Chutney Soca Monarch, Rikki Jai; Guyana’s own Terry Gajraj; and Trinidad and Tobago’s number one cross-over band, Karma, featuring Ravi B and Nesha B. There will also be several local artistes, and the Shakti String Orchestra with its versatile singers, Pooran Seeraj, Yoland Nedd, Steven Ramphall and others.
In addition, tassa lovers can dance to the sounds of several tassa groups out of the Twin Island Republic and Guyana. Admission to the event is free.
