KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) – Chris Gayle is set to captain Jamaica in the West Indies NAGICO Super50 tournament to be staged in Trinidad and Tobago from this month, according to media reports here.

Gayle was recommended for the post by the national selection panel, a decision ratified by the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) during a board meeting Thursday, the Gleaner has reported.
The decision to appoint Gayle was made after the JCA was briefed by the selection panel on the state of his hamstring injury and his availability.
The 34-year-old Gayle, who guided Jamaica to the Super50 title two seasons ago, will replace Tamar Lambert, who led the team to a semifinal exit last season.
Gayle, who is currently in Australia, is said to be responding favourably to treatment and officials are confident that he will recover in time for the January 30 start of the Super50.
The selection panel was expected to release the names of a 14-member squad sometime yesterday.
