CHAIRMAN of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Alli Baksh has again warned farmers against tampering or destroying drainage and irrigation (D&I) structures to get water into their rice fields.

He said he has received several reports of such acts although water is currently being pumped to fields while others are flooded by gravity flow from canals.

Baksh lamented that some planters are not cooperating with the Regional Administration despite the assurance that all cultivations will get water but those on high lands have to wait.

According to him, security forces will be asked to guard irrigation fixtures on which Government is spending millions of dollars.
