I HAVE always expressed on this page what Guyana would be like if we had certain minds in Guyana that thankfully live outside. Would Guyana’s stability be jeopardised if they dwelled among us? I don’t think so because this society has successfully fought off people like David Hinds, Tacuma Ogunseye, Lincoln Lewis, the Stabroek News, the Guyana Human Rights Association, Transparency International Guyana INC, Red Thread, and others of their ilk.
I stated boldly that if those people were effective, then the parliamentary numbers for the PNC and PPP would have been in the reverse – 12 for the PPP and 37 for the PNC. The pyrotechnical lesson that reverberated all over Guyana after the September 2025 general election was these people lived in the largest echo chambers in the world right here in Guyana. They were an incestuous bunch that daily congratulated each other, yet Guyanese voted for the return of Irfaan Ali with a larger majority.
So even if these minds that live outside were to come back here, all they would do is enlarge the world’s biggest echo chamber. Their names come easily to mind. Space would not allow for an enumeration, but you can go to Stabroek News archives of November 17, 2022 and see their names attached to a letter they addressed to President Ali demanding the cessation of oil production because of climate harm.
There are some prominent names in that foreign Guyanese group one of which is the Guyanese-Canadian woman, Janet Bulkan from British Columbia in Canada. Ms. Bulkan is an insufferable person simply because of the deceiving propaganda she writes.
Her latest outpouring yesterday (Wednesday) is a public letter titled: “Both issues are symptomatic of a country (Guyana) in freefall.” No definition is needed for the word “freefall” because most people know that it means that such a country is going downward. Now here is a reason why Ms. Bulkan thinks Guyana is in a freefall state. I will offer this example and then do a very brief enumeration of Ms. Bulkan’s political output to show why we should be glad someone like her does not dwell among us.
I quote Bulkan: “Mr Singh makes an unsubstantiated claim – that there are approximately 220,000 practising Hindus in Guyana. Editor, four years have passed since the 2022 decennial census was completed, but not yet released… the unverified claim of the total number of practising Hindus – are symptomatic of a country in freefall.”
I have always argued that Guyanese in and out of the land must never take people like Bulkan seriously, and in 2025 the electorate didn’t. If Mr. Singh thinks that Guyana has 220,000 Hindus, that is his guess, which he is entitled to. How can you make the fantastic leap by saying one citizen’s estimate of the Hindu population indicates that Guyana is going downwards? Is Ms. Bulkan alright mentally?
The Foreign Secretary, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Robert Persaud, publicly said that there are 100,000 Venezuelans in Guyana. We do not have official statistics on the Venezuelans, Cubans, Brazilians and Chinese in Guyana. But why are Guyanese not entitled to guess the number of such persons? Why does doing a rough estimate of such numbers make Guyana a country that is heading downward? Isn’t this unadulterated ignorance?
Ms. Bulkan wrote that the 2022 census is not available. It is. The main and crucial contents of the 2022 census can be seen at statisticsguyana.gov.gy/census/. On page 2 of January 15, 2020, Bulkan’s favourite newspaper, Stabroek News, carried extracts from the census.
Here is the track record of Ms. Bulkan which calls into question her political credibility.
1-She appeared through Zoom and asked the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to intercede with the Guyana government to stop oil production. See a caustic denunciation of her action by civil society activist Jonathan Yearwood.
2-She wrote along with her Mulatto/Creole colleagues a letter to President Ali demanding Guyana get out of oil production and warned that the greenhouse effect kills African people.
3-She described the former editor of Stabroek News and now the editor of the Kiskadee Watch as the most consequential citizen Guyana had produced since the late 20th century.
4-She wrote in the Kaieteur News of March 19, 2026, thanking the Stabroek News for carrying news about protest and solidarity with Palestine.
This is just a mere sample of the repugnant politics of Janet Bulkan. It needs to be mentioned that the Stabroek News did not carry any of the marches, protests, or symposiums on Palestine; not one. Ms. Bulkan misinformed Guyanese when she wrote that. And why do greenhouse gas effects kill African people and not the human race in general?
