DISTRIBUTORS of Busta, Fruta, and Chubby, Guyana Beverage Inc. (GBI) has partnered with Petra Organization to become the official beverage provider for the Republic Bank Schools (RBL) Football League.

The company made the announcement on Thursday at their headquarters at Diamond Housing Scheme.

Troy Mendonca, Petra Organization co-director, says the league allows for growth of teams and players because of its format and praised GBI for understanding the importance of the league in the skills progression of the country’s budding footballers.

“We are very proud to have GBI once again coming on board to support this tournament. We all know the nature of this tournament; the purpose of this tournament is that we have 8 teams competing to win every game, one title. A team can play this week, either win or lose, but they have the opportunity to go back to the drawing board and come next week and not be knocked out,” Mendonca added.

GBI Brand Manager, Fharis Mohamed, says they continued to build on relationships with sports organisers in supporting youths.

‘We have a very long-standing partnership with our partners. We are happy to partner with Busta for this initiative, and to know we can take something from our secondary schools and go regionally, it means a lot for us because we are contributing to the future and development of the population, and that is very important to us, so we had no hesitation in partnering.”

He says they will look at fun and interactive ways to engage the student-athletes, even as he charged players to show the competitive spirit throughout the competition.

Ryan Gordon, Operations Manager of Guyana Beverage Inc., says they are eager to show love as one of their founding principles by investing in the youths of Guyana.

Chase Academy Foundation will automatically qualify for the KFC Goodwill International competition as defending champions, which means the league provides the opportunity for two other teams to earn a place in the year-end competition.

The KFC Goodwill International Competition will also field teams from Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, and Brazil.

The other 7 teams in the league are Santa Rosa Secondary from Region 1, Three Miles Secondary of Region 7, New Amsterdam Secondary from Region 6, and Annandale Secondary, along with West Ruimveldt, Charlestown Secondary, and St. Joseph High Schools from Region 4.

The tournament kicks off on Sunday at the Ministry of Education ground.
