THE Private Sector Commission (PSC) has engaged international banking group Citi on expanding access to financing, foreign exchange solutions and investment opportunities as the financial institution moves to establish a representative office in Guyana.
The discussions between the PSC and Citi representatives centred on strengthening the bank’s relationship with the local business community and identifying areas where its international network and financial capabilities could support Guyana’s expanding economy.
Key sectors identified for potential collaboration include infrastructure, construction, agriculture, housing, hospitality and tourism, where businesses and project developers require access to capital and other financial services.
During the engagement, Citi outlined its global network and capabilities and expressed an interest in gaining a deeper understanding of the Guyanese market and identifying opportunities for supporting local businesses and investments.
The PSC, which represents Guyana’s private sector, highlighted the growing demand among businesses for access to foreign exchange and financing, particularly for projects that may be relatively small when considered individually but could attract international financing when combined through consortium arrangements.
The discussions also considered the potential for Citi’s international reach and expertise to complement the financing needs of Guyanese businesses and projects as the country’s economy continues to expand.
Both sides agreed on the importance of maintaining dialogue and strengthening their relationship as Citi develops its presence in Guyana.
The engagement is expected to provide opportunities for further collaboration between the international financial institution and the local private sector, particularly in areas where access to capital, foreign exchange and project financing can support business expansion and investment.
