A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy is dead and a Chinese national is in police custody following a chopping incident at Parika, East Bank Essequibo, on Wednesday afternoon.
The child has been identified as Ifeng Cao, who was also a Chinese national.
According to a statement from Police Headquarters, the boy was chopped to the neck around 15:45 hrs. He was rushed to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where a doctor pronounced him dead.
The man accused of carrying out the attack was arrested and remains in police custody. Police say investigations are continuing and further updates will be provided.
