JOHN Francis Duesbury has celebrated his 101st birthday, marking more than a century of life, family and service to Guyana.
To mark the milestone, representatives of the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security’s Difficult Circumstances Unit (DCU) visited Duesbury at his South Ruimveldt home on Tuesday, where they presented him with a gift basket and extended birthday greetings.
Duesbury, a former employee of the Transport and Harbours Department, has spent more than a century building a life centred on service and family.
He and his late wife, Evelyn, were married for 73 years and raised 10 children together.
Reflecting on his long life, Duesbury offered a simple message to younger generations: “Do more good than bad.”
His 101st birthday was recognised by Human Services and Social Security Minister, Dr Vindhya Persaud, who extended warm greetings and wished him continued strength, good health and many more cherished moments with his family.
The visit by the DCU formed part of the Ministry’s efforts to recognise and support older persons, particularly those who have made significant contributions to their families and communities.
Duesbury’s milestone represents more than a century of personal memories and experiences, while his enduring message to younger generations reflects the value he places on living a life of service and doing good.
