MORAIKOBAI, Region Five, is being positioned as a sustainable tourism destination, with several initiatives being advanced to create jobs and strengthen the community’s economy.
Minister within the Ministry of Housing, Vanessa Benn, and British High Commissioner to Guyana, Joseph Fisher, on Saturday visited the community to assess several development projects.
The delegation was welcomed by Toshao Derrick John and residents. Officials from the British High Commission, the Office of Climate Change, the Ministry of Housing and the Ministry of Agriculture also participated in the visit.
Among the initiatives highlighted were plans for the Estate of Harmony, an eco-lodge and projects aimed at expanding Moraikobai’s agricultural potential.
Benn reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting projects that improve livelihoods, generate employment and establish Moraikobai as a thriving destination for sustainable tourism and economic development.
Meanwhile, Fisher praised the community’s Village of Harmony project, describing it as an emerging model for sustainable, community-led development.
He noted that the initiative has the potential to serve as an example for other communities across Guyana, the Caribbean and the wider world.
The visit also highlighted the growing collaboration between Guyana and the United Kingdom in advancing sustainable development at the community level.
