APNU and WIN held a dialogue two Mondays ago. It came about because the PNC under its leader, Aubrey Norton, cited the unfairness of the Opposition Leader choosing three Local Government Commissioners and the PNC was overlooked.
In response, WIN agreed to meet with APNU to discuss future co-operation between the two opposition entities.
It took one week before a statement could be issued about what was discussed and the modalities, configurations and subjects for future dialogues. Normally around the world, a statement comes out hours after the confabulation. Why did it take one week? WIN’s leader is a silly fellow that puts his foot in his mouth on each occasion that he has to make a political statement.
It is strange that in a world where countries have become a global village and WhatsApp removes distance between people, Azruddin Mohamed told the media that it took a week to compose a statement because he was engaged in political tasks in the interior plus he had attended to police matters.
You do not need the leader of a party to be present in a country where his representatives are acting on his behalf. What happens is that if he is in Afghanistan or far away in Australia, his representatives are on the phone with him through WhatsApp seeking his guidance on the dimensions of the discussion.
It is silly for Mohamed to cite his absence as the reason for the long delay in the final draft of the statement. Or could it have been a Freudian slip. Mohamed was simply expressing his Freudian mind which speaks to him being WIN and WIN being him. And that is what the opposition looks like in Guyana.
Aubrey Norton is the PNC, the PNC is Norton. Mohamed is WIN and WIN is Mohamed. Both parties are ruled by narcissistic despots. I remember the General-Secretary of the PNC, Sherwin Benjamin telling Leonard Craig that he cannot appear on the Freddie Kissoon Show without talking to his leader, Mr. Norton. It is exactly the same in WIN. No one in WIN’s leadership can ever give an interview without informing Mohamed and getting his approval. And he will not give his approval.
These are the very people that accuse the government of being dictatorial. In the PPP, there are huge political figures that command hierarchical space and they can speak on behalf of the PPP and the government without asking for permission. I can cite several ministers over the past three years that appeared multiple times on the Freddie Kissoon Show and I would never believe that they sought permission to be interviewed.
After one week of a meeting between WIN and APNU, a statement was publicly issued. I believe there wasn’t a human in Guyana that didn’t laugh or wasn’t shocked at the content of that statement. The statement said absolutely nothing of interest to APNU, WIN and Guyana.
The statement informed Guyanese that WIN and ANPU have met to consider further meetings on issues of mutual interest. The statement began and ended there. There was no mention on possible topics for future engagements. This was one of the most jejune and arid statements ever to come out of a meeting between opposition parties since colonial days.
Let’s explain to readers the colossal stupidity in the statement. WIN agreed to meet the PNC to examine angles of engagement due to the PNC being left out of representation on the Local Government Commission. The first meeting was to iron out these rough areas. But after the meeting was over and a week passed, APNU and WIN composed a statement to the nation and that statement informed the public that they met and will seek further engagements.
You can forgive WIN for penning such nonsense. WIN was formed in July last year and its leader, Mohamed and all his sycophants are political debutants. Look at who represented APNU. Aubrey Norton has 40 years of experience in politics and parliamentary affairs. Coretta Mc Donald has vast experience in politics and trade unionism. Ganesh Mahipal has long experience in politics. But the focus is more on David Hinds.
He was active in ASCRIA as a teenager and has spent 50 years in politics beginning in the mid-seventies with the WPA. Yet none of these four names were capable of seeing that the statement of their party was an unadulterated embarrassment and unlimited nonsense. How do you explain the humongous and ignominious descent by these four APNU politicians?
The answer lies in Freud. I think the electoral erasure of APNU after 2025 plus the unpalatable fact that the erasure was executed by Azruddin Mohamed have done psychic damage to the PNC and APNU from which there is no recovery or repair. They cannot function psychologically anymore in politics.
