RHTYSC/Sherimane Haniff Memorial Educational Award…
THE cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club on Wednesday last honoured Ms. Amanda Sampson as the best student of the Lower Corentyne Secondary School at the recent 2026 CSEC exams.
Ms. Sampson received the Sherimane Haniff Memorial Educational Award, which was sponsored by Managing Director of Diversity Investment Inc Mr. Raymond Haniff in memory of his late mother, Sherima Haniff, who died in 2016.
RHTYSC Secretary Hilbert Foster stated that since its formation in 1990 by three-time Commonwealth Youth Service Awardee, the St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Youth Club, the organisation has always promoted education as the key to success for youth.
Since its founding in 1991, the Club has operated a massive ‘Say Yes to Education and No to Drugs’ campaign that targets over 60,000 youths in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
Among the numerous programmes under the Say Yes/Say No project are the Republic Bank Summer Camp, the Bakewell/KSM Investment Cricket Academy, the Drapathie Ramsammy Tribute to Teachers, the Heeralall Secnerine Tribute to Students, Educational Scholarships, Publication of Youth Magazines, Youth Information Booklets, Job Fairs, publication of educational posters among others.
Earlier in the year, the Club had presented the Zabeda Haniff Memorial Award to Danelly Williams as the best student at the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSS) exams. Foster urged Sampson to continue her educational pursuit by attending the University of Guyana, and pledged that the Club would continue to assist as much as possible. The long-standing Secretary also congratulated the leadership of the Lower Corentyne Secondary School on the outstanding work they are doing with the students under their watch.
Head Teacher Karl Vanier expressed thanks to the cricket teams of the RHTYSC and the Management of Diversity Investment Inc. for honouring the school’s top student.
He noted that the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club is a very close friend of the school, and each year would honour the top five students and top teacher from the Lower Corentyne Secondary School.
Dozens of students, including national players Danielle Manns and Jayden Ganpat, are also members of the Club.
He stated that the management of the school was working hard to lift the standard of the school. He expressed delight that the RHTYSC has agreed to continue the awards ceremonies in the future. The club during the period 1991 to 1992 had spearheaded a major restoration work at the school.
Ms. Amanda Sampson received a trophy, medal of excellence, framed certificate, a personal laptop computer and a collection of prizes. She expressed delight at the award and stated that her success was due to sheer hard work and dedication.
She committed herself to continue making the school very proud and announced that her personal ambition is to become an educator. Supervisor of Diversity Investment Safraz Haniff stated that his company was very delighted to be associated with honoring the top student from the school and congratulated Sampson on her achievement of topping the school for 2026 with nine subjects with three grade ones.
He further announced that the company would continue to sponsor the award in the future.
