BCB/Sohan Construction/Haniff Contracting U-23 cricket
THE Rose Hall Town Namilco Thunderbolt Flour Under-23 team has advanced to the second round of the Sohan Construction/Haniff Contracting Under-23 tournament organised by the Berbice Cricket Board. Playing Skeldon Cricket Club at the Skeldon Community Centre Ground, the visitors led by former national youth player Jonathan Rampersaud won by seven wickets to advance in the Knockout 50-over tournament.
Rose Hall Town Namilco Thunderbolt inserted the home team to take first strike after winning the toss. Skeldon were soon in trouble as skipper Lutesh Singh was caught behind by Tameshwar Deonandan for seven off the pacy Raffel Mckenzie, while national under-16 player Jayden Ganpat dismissed Ameen Khan for four, to leave the home team at 12 for 2 in the fourth over.
Trevon Reynolds 01, Ezekiel Rogers 07 and Faziur Kalamadan 00 soon fell to leave their team struggling at 29 for 5. Denny George batted well to top score with 21 as wickets fell around him. Skeldon were eventually bowled out for a meagre 72 in 29.2 overs. Junior Babb bowled well to take three wickets for five runs from four overs. Jonathan Rampersaud 2 for 15, Raffel Mckenzie 2 for 09, Jayden Ganpat 2 for 11 and Asif Warmuthoo 1 for 13 all supported well in a brilliant bowling display.
Needing to score 73 runs from 50 overs, Rose Hall Town Namilco Thunderbolt Flour reached 75 for 3 in the 14th over. Opener Matthew Perriera fell cheaply in the first over for 01 to pacer Lutesh Singh, but Ramzan Koobeer batted well to hit one massive six and five fours in his top score of 30, while national under-16 player Leon Reddy was left unbeaten on 27 with two fours and a six. Skipper Jonathan Rampersaud fell cheaply for 05, while Tameshwar Deonandan was left unbeaten on 02 when victory was achieved. Lutesh Singh 2 for 18 and Farhan Elmodeen 1 for 20 were the successful bowlers for the home team.
Rose Hall Town Namilco Thunderbolt Flour will now play Tucber Park in the second round of the tournament this weekend.
