THE Board of Directors of Archery Guyana has congratulated young archer Ravish Singh on his successful participation in the Olympic Youth Camp Tobago 2026, held from August 23 to 28, 2026, where he represented Guyana alongside young participants from across the Caribbean.
Ravish’s participation followed a structured and competitive selection process conducted by Archery Guyana after the Federation was invited to nominate one youth participant for the regional Olympic youth development programme.
Recognising the importance of ensuring a fair and transparent process, Archery Guyana developed specific selection criteria aligned with both the requirements of the Olympic Youth Camp and the Federation’s objectives for youth development.
Five nominations were received and considered. To ensure that the final decision was not simply based on a single individual’s assessment, Archery Guyana established a five-member selection panel comprising representatives from different clubs. The members of the panel were Narda Mohammed, Kenrick Cheeks, Samira Duncan, Karin Toppin and Melissa Ramnarine.
The selection panel met to deliberate on the five nominations, applying an agreed grading system, followed by a vote. Following the first round of voting, there was a clear winner, with Ravish Singh emerging as the selected nominee.
Archery Guyana subsequently communicated with the unsuccessful nominees, thanking them for the quality of their applications and encouraging them to pursue future opportunities.
The Federation, in a statement, acknowledged the selection panel for the time, care and professionalism demonstrated in undertaking what was recognised as a difficult task in selecting one nominee from a strong field.
The Olympic Youth Camp provided Ravish with an opportunity to develop not only as an athlete, but as a young leader and ambassador.
During the camp, he interacted with young people from different Caribbean countries and athletes from a variety of sporting disciplines.
The programme included sessions on Olympic history, careers in sport, nutrition, mental health and wellbeing, anger management, conflict resolution, sustainability, responsibility and career planning, alongside sporting and cultural activities.
Ravish also participated in team-building activities, including a supervised breakfast preparation exercise.
His conduct and personal responsibility were further recognised when he received an award for having the cleanest room at the youth camp.
Reflecting on his experience, Ravish said: “It was honestly an amazing experience. I got to meet and interact with young people from different Caribbean countries and athletes from different sports, including netball, volleyball, and of course, archery.”
Archery Guyana also thanked President of the Guyana Olympic Association, Godfrey Munroe and the Executive Committee for providing Ravish with this valuable international youth development opportunity and for supporting opportunities that expose young Guyanese athletes to leadership, education, cultural exchange and the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect.
President of Archery Guyana, Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, said, “For us, youth development is about much more than producing athletes. We want to develop young people who are disciplined, responsible, confident and capable of becoming future leaders and ambassadors for their sport and their country.”
Archery Guyana also congratulated the other members of the Guyanese contingent, Tesianna Harris, who represented Guyana in track and field, and Crystal Persaud, who served as chaperone.
The body said, “We are pleased that Ravish was able to share this experience with fellow Guyanese representatives and to contribute to the country’s participation in this important regional youth development initiative.”
