DEFENDING champion, Slingerz FC, on Sunday, began their defence of the Elite League football title with a needle win over Police Football Club at the National Training Centre (NTC) at Providence.
Neron Barrow was the difference maker for the champions who came off of their quarterfinal finish in the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship last month.
Barrow hit the back of the net in the 23rd minute; his goal remained the only one of the clash at the end of regulation time as the champions started off with a routine win.
Meanwhile, Santos FC also picked up a 2-1 win over Ann’s Grove United FC in the second encounter of the night.
Yohance Francis put Ann’s Grove ahead 10 minutes after the opening whistle.

It was not until the 34th that Tyrice Dennis found the equaliser to draw scores level.
After the resumption, with scores tied up, each side struggled to find the goal to break the deadlock.
It took an Ian Daniels effort in the 71st to break the deadlock and put Santos ahead.
Santos played well in the closing minutes to secure their first win of season 8 of the Premier League competition.
