TWO remote communities in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) are set benefit from two critical public facilities, after the Regional Democratic Council issued an Invitation for Bids for the construction of a new health post at Amokokopai in the Upper Mazaruni and a nursery school at Kangaruma Village on the Middle Mazaruni River.
The notice, released by the Regional Administration Office in Bartica and signed by Regional Executive Officer Dr Daniel Josh Kanhai, carries engineer’s estimates of $50 million for the Amokokopai health post and $65.08 million for the Kangaruma nursery school, putting the combined value of the two projects at more than $115 million.
Amokokopai, a mining community in the upper reaches of the Mazaruni River, has long relied on lengthy river and trail journeys for residents needing medical care.
A dedicated health post there would bring routine and emergency treatment meaningfully closer to home, building on a run of recent health-sector gains across Region Seven.
In the past two years alone, the region has gained a new operating theatre at the Kamarang District Hospital, a newly built health post at Eteringbang, upgraded digital X-ray and ultrasound equipment, expanding telemedicine services, and, just months ago, a new water ambulance to strengthen medical evacuation along the Mazaruni River network.
Kangaruma Village was among the stops on a major government cabinet outreach to Region Seven earlier this year, when ministers and senior officials travelled through Upper and Middle Mazaruni communities to engage residents directly on development priorities.
A new nursery school would give the village’s youngest children access to early education without the long river journey many families currently face, echoing similar hinterland-education investments recently extended to nearby communities such as Issano.
Interested and eligible contractors can collect a complete set of bidding documents, in English, from the Accounts Section of the Regional Administration in Bartica, Monday to Friday between 08:30hrs and 15:00hrs, upon payment of a non-refundable fee of $3,000 (three thousand dollars) in cash.
To qualify, bidders must present valid compliance certificates from the Guyana Revenue Authority and the National Insurance Scheme, a valid VAT certificate where applicable, and proof of business registration, along with any further requirements set out in the bidding document.
Sealed tenders, bearing no identifying marks on the outside apart from a notation in the upper left-hand corner naming the item bid for, must reach the tender box of the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board at the Ministry of Finance, at the corner of Main and Urquhart Streets, Georgetown, no later than 09:00hrs on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
In keeping with standard procurement practice, bids will be opened immediately after the tender box closes, in the presence of any bidders or representatives who choose to attend.
