POLICE in Regional Division Three are investigating an armed robbery in which five masked men allegedly stole approximately $23 million in cash from a hardware store at La Grange, West Bank Demerara.
The robbery occurred at about 18:20 hrs on Friday, August 28, 2026.
According to Police, a 29-year-old Chinese businessman reported that five masked men entered the premises, four of whom were allegedly armed with what appeared to be firearms.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspects gained access to the property by climbing over the southern fence from the direction of the Demerara River.
The men allegedly entered the building and held three Chinese nationals hostage before removing approximately $23 million in cash, which was reportedly being kept under a bed.
The suspects subsequently escaped through the southern section of a back fence.
Police have reviewed CCTV footage and questioned several persons as investigations continue.
