THE ferry service between Suriname and Guyana can be continued. The sailing ban for the MV Canawaima was lifted following a re-inspection on August 13, 2026.
Canawaima Ferry Service (CFS) Inc. and Canawaima Management Company (CMC) NV reported that the ferry has been re-inspected and is cleared to sail again. This resolves the interruption of the connection between the two countries.
According to the companies, the safety of passengers, crew, and the vessel remains paramount. The technical monitoring of the MV Canawaima will therefore continue in accordance with the agreements made in this regard.
The organisations expressed their appreciation for the co-operation with the competent authorities and other involved parties in Suriname and Guyana. Staff, the media, and the community were also thanked for their efforts and understanding during the past period.
According to CFS and CMC, further efforts remain focused on ensuring a safe, reliable, and sustainable ferry connection between Suriname and Guyana. (Waterkant News)
