MORE than 100 agro-processors and other local entrepreneurs are expected to showcase their products at the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association’s (GMSA’s) Uncapped Marketplace 2026 this weekend, as the organisation continues its push to expand opportunities for locally manufactured goods.
The two-day event, scheduled for August 15 and 16 at the Guyana National Stadium, will run from 10:00h to 20:00h on both days, with free admission and activities open to the public.
Uncapped Marketing was launched by the GMSA in 2017 with the objective of giving local manufacturers an avenue to showcase their products, connect with consumers and access new market opportunities.
Since then, the initiative has evolved beyond a physical marketplace into a broader platform for market access, networking, entrepreneurship and business development.
The programme now includes the Uncapped Marketplace e-commerce platform, allowing participating businesses to reach customers beyond the physical event, as well as GMSA training and other business-development opportunities.
According to the GMSA, the initiative is intended to help Guyanese entrepreneurs take their businesses to the “next level” by providing opportunities to showcase products, receive feedback, build relationships with customers and potential partners, and access resources to strengthen their operations.
The association said the initiative is also focused on value addition, particularly within the agricultural sector.
Guyana produces a wide range of agricultural commodities, but agro-processing allows entrepreneurs to transform those raw materials into branded products that can generate greater income and economic value.
For example, mangoes can be sold as fresh produce or transformed into packaged and branded mango achar for sale in local, regional and international markets. The same approach can be applied to fruits, spices, herbs and other agricultural products.
However, the GMSA noted that many entrepreneurs face challenges in making the transition from producing agricultural commodities to operating competitive value-added businesses.
Training, financing, packaging, equipment, market access and business-development support are therefore critical to helping entrepreneurs overcome those challenges and expand their enterprises.
At this year’s Marketplace, consumers will have an opportunity to explore a wide range of locally produced goods, including sauces and seasonings, jams, jellies and butters, skin, hair and beauty products, beverages, traditional and herbal teas, snacks and handmade crafts.
Farmers will also be showcasing fruits and vegetables, while vendors will offer plants and other locally produced items.
Among the businesses expected to participate are Ashdel’s Enterprise, Nature’s Wrap, Frankie Limerick Sea Glass Production, and Meika and Sons Products.
A major attraction this year will be the return of the Savour the Flavour Competition, which is designed to encourage consumers to purchase products from participating agro-processors.
Customers who purchase a product from a participating agro-processor will receive an entry coupon for a chance to win a hamper filled with locally made products. One lucky shopper will also have the opportunity to win an electric bike.
To participate, shoppers must purchase a product from a participating agro-processor at the event, complete the entry coupon and place it in the raffle drum.
Draws will be conducted on both days of the Marketplace, giving consumers multiple opportunities to participate.
The GMSA said the competition supports one of the central objectives of Uncapped Marketplace, encouraging consumers to discover, support and purchase products made by Guyanese entrepreneurs.
With more than 100 agro-processors and other businesses expected to participate, the GMSA is positioning Uncapped Marketplace 2026 as an opportunity for consumers to support local enterprise while gaining greater exposure to the range of products being produced in Guyana.
The Marketplace will be held at the Guyana National Stadium on August 15 and 16 from 10:00h to 20:00h each day. Admission is free.
