POLICE are investigating a shooting incident in West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, which left two sisters injured on Monday night, with investigators recovering a licensed firearm and ammunition from the scene.
The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on August 10, 2026, along West Front Road, West Ruimveldt, where the 26-year-old and 31-year-old sisters were reportedly involved in an altercation with a 48-year-old security guard of Bent Street, Werk-en-Rust.
According to preliminary investigations, the women were seated along West Front Road when an altercation developed between them and the security guard.
During the confrontation, the man allegedly discharged several rounds from a firearm in his possession.
The 26-year-old woman sustained gunshot injuries to her left ankle and upper left leg, while her 31-year-old sister was injured in her right foot and left leg.
Both women were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where they remain under medical care. Their conditions have been listed as stable.
The security guard was subsequently contacted at a private hospital, where he was receiving treatment for an injury he sustained. His condition was also listed as stable.
Police identified the firearm involved as a licensed Glock 19 pistol, for which the 48-year-old man is the licensed firearm holder.
The firearm was recovered and lodged, along with two magazines containing a total of 27 live 9mm rounds of ammunition. One spent shell was also recovered at the scene.
Investigators also observed closed-circuit television cameras in the area and said the footage will be reviewed as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Investigations are ongoing.
