POLICE have arrested a 30-year-old miner as they investigate an alleged attempted murder at Agatash Village, Bartica, which left a 19-year-old gold miner seriously injured and a 57-year-old woman hospitalised.
The incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Agatash Village along the Essequibo River.
According to preliminary investigations, the two victims, a 57-year-old housewife and a 19-year-old gold miner, both of Agatash Village, were allegedly attacked by the 30-year-old suspect during an incident at the location.
The victims sustained injuries during the alleged attack and were taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where they were examined and treated before being admitted.
The 19-year-old man was subsequently transferred to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital for further medical attention. His condition has been described as serious.
The 57-year-old woman remains hospitalised and is listed in stable condition.
The suspect was subsequently apprehended and handed over to police. He remains in custody and is assisting with the investigation.
Police said investigations are continuing.
