THE Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning on Thursday continued its nationwide “Putting Safety First in the Construction Sector” seminar series with an outreach session involving construction stakeholders in Region Four.

The programme forms part of the ministry’s continuing efforts to strengthen occupational safety and health awareness, encourage safer workplace practices and reduce accidents and injuries within Guyana’s expanding construction industry.

Participants received presentations on construction safety, conditions of work, National Insurance Scheme (NIS) matters and electrical-network safety.

The session also featured an interactive question-and-answer segment, allowing stakeholders to raise concerns, seek clarification and engage directly with representatives on issues affecting workplace safety and labour practices.

The ministry said the nationwide seminar series is intended to promote greater awareness of occupational safety and health requirements, while encouraging employers, contractors, workers and other stakeholders to adopt measures aimed at preventing workplace incidents.

With construction activity increasing across Guyana as major infrastructural, housing, commercial and industrial projects continue to expand, the ministry has been placing greater emphasis on strengthening safety standards and improving compliance throughout the sector.

The ongoing programme is being conducted in regions across the country and is expected to support the development of safer work environments by equipping stakeholders with information on workplace responsibilities, risk prevention and appropriate safety practices.

The ministry said continued engagement and education are important to building a stronger culture of workplace safety and ensuring that construction workers are better protected from preventable hazards.
