Fisherman points authorities to possible location of sunken MV Barima

The Government of Guyana says search and recovery teams have received information that could lead them to the location of the sunken MV Barima.

In a statement issued Monday, the Government said that at approximately 1:31 p.m., teams involved in the operation received specific information from a fisherman at sea regarding the possible location of the vessel.

Acting on the tip, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) immediately directed all search and recovery assets operating at sea to the identified location.

Authorities said further updates will be provided once the sighting has been confirmed and responding teams complete their initial assessment.

The MV Barima capsized on Saturday night while travelling from Georgetown to Port Kaituma, triggering a massive search and recovery operation. As of Monday afternoon, 10 bodies had been recovered, while authorities continue efforts to locate those still missing.
