The Government of Guyana has confirmed that 10 bodies have now been recovered following the sinking of the MV Barima.

In an update issued Monday afternoon, the Government said that as of 10:35 a.m., another body had been recovered during the ongoing search-and-rescue operation.

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre deployed 13 search assets from first light on Monday to continue the operation.

By 12:35 p.m., eight bodies had been recovered during Monday’s operation, bringing the total number of confirmed bodies recovered since the incident to 10.

Authorities said the identification process will be conducted at the Suddie Hospital, with relatives assisting in confirming the identities of the deceased.

The Government said it remains fully committed to the search effort and will continue deploying all available resources to locate and account for every person who was aboard the MV Barima at the time of the tragedy.
