POLICE have arrested a 24-year-old porter after the body of a missing 20-year-old woman was discovered buried in a shallow grave at Chelsea Park, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.
Dead is Kerriana Standford, housewife of Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara.
Police said investigators believe the murder occurred on Friday, July 3, at about 20:00 hrs. However, the woman’s body was not discovered until Friday, July 10, buried behind a residence at Chelsea Park.
According to preliminary investigations, Standford had visited the home of the suspect shortly before she disappeared.
Acting on information received, police searched the property and unearthed the woman’s body from a shallow grave at the back of the premises.
Further investigations led to the arrest of the suspect at Enmore, East Coast Demerara. He was taken into custody and escorted to the Mahaicony Police Station.
The body was transported to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, where a doctor pronounced her dead on arrival. It was later transferred to Bailey’s Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
