NEW York Softball Cricket Doctors (NYSCD), comprising of several players from the NYSCL League team and superbly led by Asif Ally, followed up their triumph in the South Florida Softball Cricket League (SFSCL) tournament, held a few months ago, with another emphatic performance in the 2026 NYSCL Independence Cup.

Playing unbeaten during the annual three-day extravaganza, staged in the “Big Apple” during the last weekend, NYSCD emerged winners of the Legends Over-50 category by nine wickets when the final climaxed at Baisley Park, Queens last Sunday.

Led by a brilliant 72 from consistent opener Ravi Sahadeo and an unbeaten 44 from former Guyana and Canadian player, Sunil Dhaniram, NYSCD defeated Corriverton, who were also unbeaten up to that stage, by nine wickets after restricting their opponents to 150 for seven in their allotted 20 overs.

The left-right combination added 142 for opening stand before Ravi, who struck four fours and an equal number of sixes, departed in the 14th over, His brother Errapali (11 not out) duly joined Dhaniram to complete the destruction. The latter’s knock was spiced with three fours and a six.

Earlier, former Guyana all-rounder Bhim George was the standout for Corriverton, hitting 70, which contained two fours and three sixes while most of his colleagues struggled to build important innings. Kundanlall Chickery claimed two for 23.

At Sunday’s presentation, NYSCD collected the winning Eagle and US $3,000 while all the players also received medallions. Runners-up Corriverton were awarded with a trophy.

Ravi Sahadeo took the man-of-the-match of the final prize while George walked away with prizes for scoring the most runs (367), the highest individual score (116) and the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the category. Gansham Persaud of NYSCD, with eight wickets, claimed the prize for the bowler with the most wickets while David Harper of Regal Legends received the prize for the bowler with the best bowling figures, four for 13. Apart from George, the other centurion was his teammate Savesh Sarran, who hit 108. (Frederick Halley)
