MINISTER of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill and Head of Procurement and Contracts Andy Mahadeo were given an exclusive tour of Huawei Technologies’ global headquarters in Shenzhen, China, as part of an official visit aimed at examining innovative solutions that could support Guyana’s ongoing digital transformation and infrastructure modernization efforts.
The visit provided the Guyanese delegation with an opportunity to engage directly with senior executives of the Chinese technology giant and gain first-hand exposure to some of the company’s latest advancements in digital infrastructure, smart city development, and next-generation telecommunications technologies.
According to information released by the Ministry of Public Works, the engagement formed part of a broader effort to identify technologies and best practices that could be adapted to Guyana’s rapidly expanding infrastructure landscape.
During the tour, Edghill and Mahadeo were introduced to Huawei’s state-of-the-art facilities and a range of technological innovations designed to enhance connectivity, improve operational efficiency, and support the development of digitally integrated public services.
The ministry said the discussions focused on how emerging technologies can be leveraged to strengthen infrastructure planning and delivery, particularly as Guyana continues to invest heavily in transportation, housing, energy, and communications projects.
Officials noted that the visit aligns with the government’s wider agenda of modernizing public infrastructure and accelerating the country’s digital transformation strategy. By examining advanced technological frameworks in operation, the ministry hopes to identify practical solutions that can be incorporated into future projects to improve service delivery and connectivity nationwide.
