—RDC moves to enforce accountability, liquidated damages and stricter project oversight

THE Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Two has moved to take firm action against contractors who are failing to meet project deadlines, with Regional Executive Officer (REO) Deolall Rooplall warning that sanctions will be imposed on those who continue to delay the completion of works.
Rooplall recently met with contractors whose projects are significantly behind schedule during a meeting held in the RDC boardroom. The engagement was attended by Deputy Regional Executive Officer (DREO) Omesh Sasenaryan and senior engineering personnel.
During the meeting, contractors were informed of the RDC’s concerns regarding delays affecting the timely completion of projects across the region.
Rooplall emphasised that contractors have a responsibility to maintain close communication with the RDC whenever challenges arise that may affect project timelines.
According to the REO, a total of 24 contractors are currently behind schedule and will be issued formal letters regarding their performance.
He further stated that the RDC will pursue liquidated damages against contractors who fail to complete works within the agreed contractual period.
Additionally, contractors who are in default and have failed to communicate with the RDC regarding project delays will be reported to the relevant agencies and government ministries.
Non-performing contractors will also face removal from the RDC’s approved contractors’ list and may be barred from participating in future projects.
Rooplall said the measures are aimed at ensuring greater accountability, improving project delivery and safeguarding public resources while maintaining high standards in the execution of regional development works.
