A 17-year-old boy accused of fatally stabbing another teenager at Croal Street, Georgetown, has been charged with manslaughter and remanded to custody.

The accused, of Cummings Park, ‘E’ Field, Sophia, appeared on Thursday before Magistrate Annette Singh in the Children’s Court.

The charge was read to him in connection with the death of Keroy Profit, a 17-year-old of Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to custody until June 4.

The incident occurred on May 20, 2026, in the vicinity of the Route 40 Minibus Park at Croal Street, Georgetown.

Police previously reported that preliminary investigations revealed that Profit and the accused, who were known to each other, were among a group of students when the incident occurred.

During the confrontation, the accused was reportedly armed with a pair of scissors and allegedly stabbed Profit to the neck.

The injured teenager was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he later succumbed while receiving medical treatment.

Following the incident, investigators reviewed and extracted CCTV footage from the area and questioned several individuals as part of the investigation.

The teen suspect was subsequently arrested and remained in police custody before being formally charged with manslaughter.
