Plaisance Secondary beat Hope Secondary 29-8.

Plaisance battled from tip-off with Christopher Ram leading the charge with 11 points.

However, the player of the match went to Trevor James for his all-round good showing as he grabbed eight points and seven rebounds.

In the other clash, Good Hope beat Annandale Secondary by three points.

Director of Youth Basketball Guyana Chris Bowman says they have begun hosting regional competitions at Linden, New Amsterdam and Corentyne, Berbice, Georgetown and East Coast as they move closer to the National Schools Basketball Festival.

“It really has been going quite well; the decision to really focus this year on the developmental aspect of the region was the right decision. What we are seeing so far is so many new players, too many to count, teams and players.”

Bowman said the change in format has seen increased competition, which has forced them to expand regionally to include more teams.

“On the East Coast for the past few years, we have had President’s College competing in the Georgetown regionals because there wasn’t much competition on the East Coast for President’s College, but this year we have some really good games we have seen so far.”

He says they are also hosting a mini camp and training session in the region as they look to set up a format for the competition at the Abram Zuil Secondary School.

The regionals continue on Sunday with the Georgetown leg at the sports hall with four matches set for the day.

Chase’s Academy will meet the Bishop’s High B; School of the Nations play the Bishop’s High A; St Stanislaus College play Tutorial High; and Marian Academy will clash with Queen’s College.

The regionals are sponsored by Edward B Beharry Ltd, G-Boats Inc., National Sports Commission, Ministry of Education and Banks DIH Ltd.
