THE police in Regional Division # 9 are investigating the discovery of a quantity of suspected cannabis, which was found on Saturday, May 2, 2026, about 19:00hrs, during an operation conducted at Surama Village, North Rupununi.

During the exercise, ranks acting on information contacted a 20-year-old male of Surama Village, North Rupununi. Searches were conducted on the man and a side bag he was carrying, during which 17 transparent zip-lock plastic bags containing seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis were found in the bag.

The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Annai Police Station along with the suspected cannabis, which was weighed in his presence and amounted to 34 grams before being lodged.

The suspect remains in custody as an investigation continues. (GPF)
