The Government has launched an investigation into a video circulating on social media, which allegedly contains threats against the Director of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), James Singh, warning that attacks on law enforcement will not be tolerated.
In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Home Affairs said the matter is being treated with urgency, noting that “any threat against the life of a public official is a serious criminal matter.”
Authorities are currently working to determine the origin, authenticity and intent of the video, while taking steps to ensure the safety of those targeted.
The development comes amid intensified anti-narcotics operations, with CANU removing more than 371 kilograms of drugs from circulation during the first quarter of 2026 and disrupting several trafficking networks through intelligence-led actions.
While referencing that context, the Ministry made it clear that it does not prejudge the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
“The Government of Guyana makes it clear: intimidation will not succeed. Threats against law enforcement officials will be met with the full force of the law,” the statement said.
Officials further stressed that efforts to dismantle organised criminal networks, both local and transnational, will continue with “resolve, coordination and unwavering focus.”
“No individual or group will be allowed to undermine the rule of law or threaten those tasked with upholding it,” the Ministry added.
