Acting on intelligence, ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) on Saturday intercepted a motor vehicle at Tuschen Public Road, East Bank Essequibo, uncovering a quantity of suspected foreign marijuana weighing just under 11 kilogrammes.
CANU, in a statement, said the operation was carried out on April 25, 2026, during which officers conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered ten brick-like parcels containing the narcotics.
Two men — identified as Austin Jawahir, 25, of Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, and Jose Presilla, 22 — were arrested at the scene. The suspects were escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the seized drugs, which weighed 10.992 kilogrammes.
The bust forms part of ongoing enforcement efforts targeting narcotics trafficking along key corridors on the West Demerara-Essquibo axis, where law enforcement agencies continue to tighten surveillance and disrupt illicit networks.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
