THE Guyana Rugby Union (GRU) has officially unveiled a powerhouse 30-man squad tasked with defending home turf in the opening leg of their highly anticipated 15s campaign.
The “Green Machine” is set to face off against Bermuda this Saturday, April 25th, at the National Park Rugby Field.
While the initial roster features a deep pool of talent, head coach Claudius Butts is expected to trim the list to a final match-day 22 by Friday.
The squad is spearheaded by captain Rondel McArther, who will lead a formidable front row alongside Makayah Smith and Devon Charles.
Experience remains a cornerstone of the selection, with seasoned veteran Godfrey Broomes named as vice-captain to provide tactical leadership from the backline.
The coaching staff, which includes assistants Elwin Chase and Ryan Hinkson, has opted for a blend of physical presence in the forwards and explosive speed on the wings, featuring players such as Owen Adonis and Godfrey Pollydore.
The clash against Bermuda marks the beginning of a critical home stretch for the Guyanese side as they look to assert dominance in the regional standings.
Following the April 25th encounter, the National Park will remain the centre of the rugby universe in Guyana for two more major fixtures.
The Green Machine is scheduled to host Barbados on June 6, followed by a high-stakes rivalry match against Trinidad and Tobago on June 26.
With kick-off scheduled for 16:00h, the GRU is expecting a massive turnout to support the national team.
