Businessman, security guard injure each other, Plaisance woman during shootout

A BUSINESSMAN, a security guard, and a Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD) woman, are now injured after the feuding businessman and the security guard traded bullets when they spotted each other at Victoria Road, Plaisance.

According to information from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred around 17:30hrs on Saturday, April 11, 2026.

Investigations have revealed that the 38-year-old businessman of Victoria Road and the 36-year-old security guard of Graham Street are known to each other and reportedly have an ongoing conflict arising from a previous incident.

On the day in question, one of the men was at a bus shed in the area while the other was in the vicinity of a nearby business place. Upon seeing each other, both allegedly discharged rounds in each other’s direction.

“As a result of the exchange, the 38-year-old businessman received an injury to his left ankle, while the 36-year-old security guard received injuries to both feet. In addition, a 52-year-old overseas-based Guyanese woman of Ben Profit Drive, Plaisance, who was in the vicinity, received an injury to her left leg,” police said.

Investigators visited and processed the scene, where several 9mm spent shells were recovered. CCTV cameras were also observed in the area, and footage will be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.

The police also recovered one 9mm Luger pistol, along with two magazines, one containing 22 live 9mm rounds and the other containing seven live 9mm rounds which were lodged pending investigation.

The three injured persons were escorted for medical attention, after which the 38-year-old businessman and the 36-year-old security guard were placed into police custody, along with a 49-year-old businesswoman of Victoria Road, Plaisance, pending investigations
