–with more investments, accelerated growth across every sector, Minister Croal tells business community
MINISTER of Housing,Collin Croal, on Saturday evening underscored the growing economic momentum of Essequibo during his feature address at the Essequibo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ECCI) Business Mix.
Addressing a gathering of business leaders and stakeholders in the conference centre of Jaigobin Hotel 2, Minister Croal noted that Essequibo is at a pivotal stage in its development, with a noticeable surge in business activity alongside major infrastructural expansion and resource development.
He emphasised the vital role of the private sector in ensuring that this progress leads to sustained and inclusive economic growth.
Reflecting on the government’s strategic direction, the minister highlighted that over the past five years, there have been deliberate initiatives to decentralise development. This approach ensures that regions such as Essequibo are treated as key contributors to Guyana’s overall growth, rather than peripheral areas.
He said that these policies are already delivering tangible results, with targeted investments in infrastructure, housing, agriculture, and services driving transformation across the region.
Focusing on housing, Minister Croal detailed ongoing initiatives, including the accelerated allocation of house lots, the regularisation of informal settlements and the expansion of existing housing schemes.
He stressed that development extends beyond land distribution, with strong emphasis on providing essential infrastructure such as roads, drainage systems, water access, and other utilities to support sustainable communities.
The Business Mix also brought together several key stakeholders, including Regional Executive Officer Susanah Saywack; ECCI Executive Member Tekaram Singh; ECCI President Ganesh Gaigobin; Senior Director of Business at GO-Invest John Edghill; and other members of the business community.
The engagement provided a valuable platform for strengthening collaboration between the government and the private sector, as Essequibo continues its transformation into a dynamic hub of economic activity.
