She was joined by Permanent Secretary, Shanielle Hoosein-Outar; Chief Education Officer, S. Hussain; Deputy Chief Education Officer (Technical) Dr. Ritesh Tularam, along with other education officials.
The meeting aimed to provide a platform for educators to voice concerns while allowing the Ministry to outline its plans for the sector. The meeting was held under the theme “Leading with Vision, serving with Purpose”.
Minister Parag emphasised that the Government of Guyana remains committed to delivering quality education across Guyana. She highlighted improvements made within the sector, including increased support for teachers and ongoing efforts by the Ministry to strengthen education delivery.
She called on headteachers to approach challenges with honesty and to recognise the progress already achieved. The minister also referenced the launch of the Guyana Digital School initiative, noting that it enhances access to education and provides greater opportunities for students.

Highlighting the importance of leadership, she stressed that strong school management plays a vital role in student success.
She also acknowledged the dedication of many teachers while noting that issues such as absenteeism must continue to be addressed.
“Things have changed for the better,” Minister Parag stated, encouraging educators to work collaboratively with the Ministry to ensure students receive the highest standard of education.
She further noted that programmes for guidance and counselling are being strengthened, alongside efforts to build a supportive educational ecosystem. Emphasis was also placed on moral and civic education, with the Minister reminding educators that “a child learns by actions.” She underscored the importance of effective communication and a clear focus on initiatives that enhance the sector.
Chief Education Officer S. Hussain also addressed the gathering, stating that the ministry is moving towards full digital transformation, with plans to connect every school. He encouraged headteachers to fully utilise the EMIS (Education Management Information System), which will streamline data management and reduce administrative burdens on teachers.
Hussain added that the Ministry will continue supporting all schools, including high-performing ones, to ensure consistent improvement in student outcomes.
Meanwhile, Regional Education Officer, Shondelle Hercules, encouraged mutual understanding and collaboration, noting the importance of ensuring that headteachers feel heard. She emphasised the need to make full use of such engagements to foster collective efforts and a shared vision for education development.
