A TECHNICAL team from the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has completed a site assessment and transmission network mapping for the upcoming New Hope Surface Water Treatment Plant — a major project expected to deliver treated water to more than 35,000 residents along the Cane Grove to Cove and John corridor.
Led by GWI Director of Projects Marlon Daniels and the utility’s technical team, the visit aimed to finalise critical planning elements for the facility’s supporting infrastructure that will carry treated water from the plant to communities across the region.
Officials said the exercise forms part of broader efforts to expand water treatment capacity and improve service quality nationwide.
The New Hope project forms part of the government’s long‑term strategy to address longstanding challenges in water quality and access, particularly the reliance on untreated groundwater sources that can present health and aesthetic issues without adequate processing. Investments in surface water treatment plants are central to achieving national targets for potable water access and improving public health outcomes.
GWI has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing infrastructure projects that enhance treated water delivery to residents, aligning with policy goals to expand coverage, upgrade legacy systems and elevate service standards across Guyana.
