–as a result of govt’s strategic interventions
Guyana’s Chief Education Officer, Saddam Hussain on Friday reported that the country has recorded improvements in Mathematics at this year’s Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations.
Hussain made this disclosure during the Ministry of Education’s CAPE, CSEC and CVQ results release on Friday.

He stated that this year, the pass rate for mathematics this year stands at 32 per cent, an increase of 5 per cent when compared to 2024.
“Our pass rate in Mathematics has moved from 27 per cent to 32 percent. This is an increase of five per cent. In any form of education, any form of research [a] five per cent is significant,” he said.
In 2024 it was disclosed that the Caribbean region did poorly in Mathematics, and as such CXC was moving to implement some new programmes starting in 2026.
However, Guyana did not wait but sought to immediately implement a mathematics intervention programme to aid in increasing grades.
That programme involved providing scientific calculators, graph books, all textbooks, past papers, past papers organized by topics and geometry sets among other things.
