Speaking to actor and film promoter, Neaz Subhan yesterday, this newspaper was informed that, due to its widespread positive impact across Guyana, and the tumultuous response of patrons, the promoters have decided to do a double-launch to ensure that more of the population is given the opportunity to view this epic masterpiece.
Meanwhile, the movie received tumultuous response when it was screened in Essequibo, Berbice and Mahaicony at the Satya Cinema.
‘Brown Sugar too Bitter for Me’ is brought to the stage by talented Guyanese film producer, Mahadeo Shivraj, who again has climbed the production charts with this touching movie launched in honour of the 175th Anniversary of the arrival of East Indians in Guyana.
This movie now depicts the clashes in societal classes, and the economic differences encountered when the upper class weds an individual of supposedly lower status. It tells the gripping story that brings to life the everyday issue of differences in economic levels in our present society, which have eventually resulted in segregation between ‘society classes’ in the past and even present day.
This is Shivraj’s third production, and he dubs it a rich and riveting musical drama that showcases thirteen original songs, all produced by Guyanese musicians. According to Shivraj, the movie is indeed a dazzling masterpiece and will certainly tug at the heartstrings of viewers. It entails a brilliant and arresting fusion of esteemed creativity that vividly depicts the saying: “God created man, but man created boundaries”.
The movie reminds that this should not be.
Tickets for the movie are sold at the National Cultural Centre.
