Fire, Prison and Police name changes… : Rohee, Brummel, Erskine and Gentle to address issue today

HOME Affairs Minister Clement Rohee,  on December 31, 2012, announced that there will be name changes to the Guyana Police Force, Guyana Prison Service and Guyana Fire Service. However, that announcement has since saw many letters in the press and some protest in sections of the country by some groups.
The contention is that the name changes are not worth happening and, more so, it should not be facilitated under the leadership of Minister Clement Rohee.
Today, on NCN television, Minister Rohee, Police Commissioner Leroy Brummel, Director of Prisons Dale Erskine, and Fire Chief Marlon Gentle are slated to address the importance of the name changes via a live television programme on the National Communications Network television.
The proposal was for the name of the Guyana Police Force to be renamed the Guyana Police Service, while the Guyana Fire Service will be renamed the Guyana Fire and Rescue Service and the Guyana Prison Service to the Guyana Correctional Service. The name changes are part of the reform and modernisation of the security sector. (Leroy Smith)
