DIGICEL Guyana yesterday launched its Christmas promotion titled ‘Share a smile’ in which masquerade, steel pan music, carols, black cake, sorrel and ginger beer were all part of the occasion. This occurred at the Georgetown Club on Camp Street, Georgetown, eighteen days before Christmas.
There was also Santa’s workshop, in which gifts were wrapped and presented to children who had gathered in the presence of Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and their helpers, who were all dressed appropriately.
The Success Elementary Choir belting out ‘Angels heard on high’ had many bobbing their heads and singing along, and there was also a carol sung, ‘Give love on Christmas Day’, by the children of employees of Digicel.
A story of Christmas long ago was told by Onica Harrison, whose narrative was about a time when Guyanese celebrated Christmas the traditional way.
Speaking at the ceremony was Digicel’s head of marketing, Ms Jacqueline James, who said Digicel is delighted to “give customers a reason to smile” this Christmas — the lowest prices extended to the Blackberry 9320 and 9360.
She added that the Blackberry Curve 9320 is available for $40,000, while the Blackberry Curve 9360 is available for $45,000.
The upbeat James yesterday said that persons who purchase one of the handsets will also get one month free data service, and handsets such as the Samsung E1205 and the Alcatel 296 will be sold at $2,500. She said the Nokia 100 and 111 will be on sale for $8,000, and all handset prices are inclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT).
James said, “We decided to make this offer available for customers, since mobile phones are among the most popular gifts for Christmas and other special occasions. Persons want to communicate with loved ones, especially at Christmas time; and with such great prices on handsets, persons can stay connected.”
James noted that Digicel will also continue its Christmas Cheer programme, which will see the company hosting parties, presenting gifts, serving meals, and spending quality time with children and the less fortunate across the country.
James said, “Christmas is always a special time of the year for us. We usually give back to communities in which we serve throughout the year; but we like to go the extra mile at Christmas, and this year is no different. We will begin our Christmas Cheer programme on December 12, and this will run right up to Christmas Day.”
She pointed out that under its ‘Share a Smile’ theme, Digicel will provide free bus rides, boat rides, mini concerts, stage shows, and in-store promotions for customers for the festive season.
Digicel also announced that it will release the Samsung Galaxy Mini for sale on December 20. Customers have a chance to win a family of three Galaxy handsets, inclusive of the S3, Mini and Note 2.
The competition, called Go Galaxy, started on December 6, and is in the form of a top up race. Digicel customers can win by simply topping up with $500 or more to collect the letters to spell GALAXY. The first 3 persons to collect all the letters and claim the prize will win all three handsets. The Go Galaxy competition ends on December 21, giving customers two weeks to win these highly-sought-after handsets, which will no doubt earn them many friends.
