Two refused bail on discharging loaded firearm charge

DEON Charles and Kester King (no addresses given) were refused bail yesterday, on a joint charge of discharging a loaded firearm.

They pleaded not guilty, before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, to the offence, particulars of which said, on September 30, with intent to maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm; they discharged a loaded firearm at Romario Nurse.
Police Sergeant Winneth Hubbard, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant was standing outside a shop when he saw Charles removing a pedal cycle.
The prosecutor said, subsequently, a man asked Nurse if he saw anyone move his bicycle and the latter informed that Charles did.
The prosecutor said, later in the day, Charles and King confronted Nurse with a gun, pointed the weapon at him and asked him what he saw.
The prosecutor said King then took the gun from Charles and fired a shot in the direction of Nurse but the bullet did not hit the man.
Following a report, police visited the scene and recovered a spent shell prior to the defendants being  arrested.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Paul Fung-a-Fat, who represented the defendants, told the court that the virtual complainant demanded money from the duo but they were never in possession of any gun.
Charles and King were remanded to prison until October 19.
