THE Guyana Power and Light (GPL) workers’ representative body, on Thursday last, reached an agreement that will see over 700 employees receiving a six per cent increase in their salary.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Labour, the six per cent is an increase from a four per cent offer GPL had placed on the table weeks ago. The agreement states that GPL agreed to pay the six per cent increase and the National Association of Agricultural Commercial and Industrial Employees (NAACIE) accepts a six per cent all-inclusive increase in wages and salaries as full and final settlement of all claims for increases in remuneration for the year 2021.
All-inclusive comprises of the automatic annual, in scale increase, across the board increase, and annual performance incentive for 2021.
The agreement was signed at the Ministry of Labour between the management of GPL, led by Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Renford Homer; Bal Persaud, Divisional Director for Human Resources and representatives of the union.
Chief Labour Officer (CLO), Mr. Dhaneshwar Deonarine, said that the conclusion of the agreement brings much satisfaction.
“At times, I thought it would come to me for conciliation. So, when I say I’m happy I mean it.” He mentioned.
The union also indicated that it will immediately commence talks for 2022.
