A 22-year-old West Canefield, East Canje Berbice resident was on Thursday remanded to prison for attempting to murder his older brother, who is a police constable.

Ralph Rodrigues was arraigned before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court, and was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

Particulars of the charge allege that on October 25, 2021, at the family’s Lot 1, West Canefield home, Ralph attempted to murder his brother Raul Rodrigues, 29.

The accused has been remanded to prison until November 10, 2021.

According to reports, on the day in question, the siblings had a misunderstanding and Ralph armed himself with a knife, with which he stabbed Rawl several times in the abdomen and once in his right leg.

Shortly after the incident, Raul was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor and admitted a patient in the facility’s Intensive Care Unit.
