THANKS to an unbeaten century from the bat of former national wicketkeeper/batsman Sheik Mohammed, Everest Cricket Club were able to record a tense three wicket victory over Floodlights XI in their specially arranged 25 overs aside contest at the Everest ground last Tuesday night. Batting first, Floodlights felt they had the game won, after chalking up 211 for 5 from their 25 overs, with Baksh leading the way with 63 that included eight sixes and one four, while Surindra Nauth offered support with 51, which was decorated with four sixes and three fours.
The burly Rohan Sarjoo, a former national opening batsman in his own right, took 2 for 46 for Everest, who replied with 214 for 7 from 24.2 overs, thanks to Mohammed’s unbeaten 102 in which he struck five sixes and the same number of fours, while batting through his team’s innings to see them home.
Sayed Mohammed struck four sixes in his 36 in support to Sheik Mohammed, against the bowling of Dharam Persaud and Raj Singh who took two wickets each for 34 runs respectively for Floodlights XI, who fought valiantly to win the game but were denied same by Sheik Mohammed’s innings.
At the brief presentation ceremony that followed the contest which was sponsored by Ricky Deonarine of 4R Bearings, Sheik Mohammed and Sarjoo received trophies after being adjudged the Best Batsman and Bowler for the victorious team, while the former was named the Man of the Match.
Baksh was named the Best Batsman from the losing team, while both Persaud and Singh took the accolades for Best Bowler rewards, with all trophies for the contest being donated by Ramesh Sunich of Trophy Stall which is based in Bourda Market and Hadi’s Mall respectively.
