OVER 30 golfers had registered, up to yesterday afternoon, for the Bruster’s Real Ice Cream golf tournament which is scheduled to take place tomorrow. The medal-play, 18-hole event, is expected to attract between 40 and 50 of the country’s best golfers, according to information from the lone nine-hole golf club in the country – the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC).
Tee-off time is 12:00hrs. At the official launch of the inaugural event yesterday at Bruster’s in the MovieTowne Mall, co-proprietor of the franchise Paton George, who is also an executive member of the LGC, handed over the sponsorship cheque to another executive member, Chet Bowling.

George later told Chronicle Sport that he had hoped to make this tournament a grand event for adults and children, but due to the pandemic it was tailored to fall within the stipulated guidelines of the COVID-19 Task Force. Nevertheless, golfers will battle for several trophies, including the traditionally top three net finishers (total scores minus handicaps) and overall best gross (total score). George noted that he also intends to have prizes for persons who finished on top in the front nine (first nine holes played) and the back nine (the last nine holes played). He said that once the pandemic is over by next Easter, he is hoping to have additional activities, including driving, chipping and putting competitions for children. “We had to cancel the kids’ activities this year, but we still make a contribution to one of the local schools, the Colaaco Centre of Learning in Thomas Road.”
