Man found with illegal gun, ammunition in pants crotch granted bail

A MAN, who was allegedly caught with an unlicenced firearm and matching ammunition hidden in his pants crotch, was, on Monday, granted $300,000 bail by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs – Marcus.

Salim Azeez of North Section, Canal Number Two, pleaded not guilty to the two charges when he made an appearance in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The first charge alleged that Azeez, on November 20, at Main Street, Georgetown, had, in his possession, one .32 Taurus pistol when he was not the holder of a firearm licence in force at the time.

The second charge alleged that he, on the same day, at the said location, had in his possession 13 live .32 ammunition when he was not the holder of a firearm licence in force at the time.

Prosecutor Inniss told the court that, on the day in question, about 22:00hrs, police, while on patrol duty on Main Street, Georgetown, intercepted a motor vehicle which was being driven by Azeez.

A search was conducted on the vehicle. While subsequently executing a search on his person, the gun and ammunition were found hidden in his pants crotch. Azeez was asked to provide his firearm licence but was unable to do so. As a result he was arrested and later charged for the present offences.

Magistrate Isaacs- Marcus granted Azeez $150,000 bail for each charge.

The matter was adjourned to December 21.
