Man charged with attempted armed robbery, making false police report

A CAMPBELLVILLE resident who, allegedly, attempted to rob a man at gun-point, and who falsely reported to the police that he was a robbery victim, on Monday, made an appearance in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Shamear Mingo of John Street was released on a total of $100, 000 bail by Magistrate Leron Daly, after he denied that he attempted to commit robbery under arms and provided false information to a public officer.

It is alleged that Mingo, on November 16, at Millington and Campbell Streets, Georgetown, while being armed with a gun, attempted to rob Dominic Norayon.

Additionally, it is alleged that, later that day, at the East La Penitence Police Station, Mingo gave information to Detective Corporal 19204 Harvey, stating that he was robbed knowing it to be false and causing the detective to do what he ought not to have done.

Prosecutor Morris told the court that, on the day in question, Mingo who was the driver of a motor car and two others went to Tech Guy Solution Store, located at Millington and Campbell Streets, Georgetown.

Upon their arrival, Mingo’s two accomplices exited the car and approached Norayon. There was a scuffle between Norayon and the men during which he was hit to the head with a firearm. Norayon raised an alarm, and, while escaping, one of the men discharged one round in Norayon’s direction.

The two assailants re-entered Mingo’s car and made good their escape.

Shortly after the incident, Mingo went to the La Penitence Police Station to report that he was robbed of his motorcar at Guyhoc Park. Upon conducting a thorough investigation, it was revealed that Mingo had provided false information to the police.

Magistrate Daly granted Mingo $70,000 bail on the attempted robbery charge and $30,000 for the other matter.

The matter was adjourned to February 12.
