Guyana and T&T in must-win situation today
THE Guyana National Stadium comes alive today from 16:00hrs as the Guyana National Rugby team will take on Trinidad and Tobago in the South Caribbean final of the 2015 RWC Qualifiers. In interviews just two days ago with head coach of the host side Theodore Henry and captain Ryan Gonsalves, they said the players are raring and ready to take on the visitors.
Gonsalves disclosed that the spirit in the camp is quite high and the players have a boost of confidence especially with the return of the senior players.
However, complacency is never an issue with the home side which is ranked number two in the Caribbean, behind T&T whom they defeated last year.
Guyana come out of a draw against Barbados just over a week ago and are in a must-win situation if they want to advance to take on the winner of the North Caribbean final between defending champions Bermuda and Bahamas.
Meanwhile, head coach of the Calypso Warriors, Larry Mendez, will have his hands full as they enter this match which can be dubbed as a grudge match.
What Guyana can bank on is that the Trinidadian side will surely have some changes in their squad and in the technical aspect of their game in their quest for dominance.
Meanwhile, today’s game will see Jason Brewer as the Match Commissioner and his fellow Barbadian George Nicholson as the Referee in charge.
The Head Official is Guyana’s Terrence Grant while Clint Jones of St Vincent and the Grenadines and Alwin Etwah of Guyana are the Assistant Referees.
